This is the seventh Flagship Chardonnay released under the Big Villa label, and the fifth in a row to score 94pts or more from Wine Orbit!
Handpicked fruit was sourced from a range of regional Hawke's Bay vineyards, and this wine has been given every possible attention in the winery. This is a generously styled, ripe and creamy wine that was 100% barrel fermented with approx. 25% new oak. Full-bodied and mouth-filling with layers of spicy oak and fresh citrus notes, this is a vibrant, balanced chardonnay with lots of action in the glass. The finish is fresh, zingy and impressively long.
Originally vinted to sell at the $40 per bottle mark, this is ridiculous value and we defy any fan of premium barrel-fermented Hawke's Bay Chardonnay to disagree with that statement.
Big Villa is a re-skin brand from our friends at Advintage. The wines with the Flagship denomination sit at the highest level of the three tier Big Villa hierarchy. To protect their brand integrity, we are unable to divulge the name of the winery who produced this outstanding wine.
Tasting note
Tour de force barrel fermented Hawke's Bay Chardonnay. Full bodied and mouthfilling with layers of spicy oak and fresh citrus notes, this is a perfectly balanced, impressive wine that will stand up to the most discerning scrutiny. It's loaded with peach and nougat flavours and an underlying layer of creme brulee. The finish is as clean as a whistle and impressively long.
