This special expression from Laphroaig is crafted from carefully selected casks from each of the distillery's key styles. One key difference with this single malt - it is matured in new American Oak casks, which are rarely used for Scotch whisky maturation. With spirit selected from their Quarter Cask, PX Cask and Triple Wood (European Oak casks) and a final addition of their signature 10 Year Old, the whisky brings a subtle blending of peat, oak and sweetness. This is a full-bodied expression, featuring Laphroaig's trademark peat that is matched by an additional layer of complexity and depth, brought about by the combination of maturation styles and different oaks.
Tasting note
There's plenty of peat there, though it takes it easy and lets the bright notes of lemon, green apples and mint stand out. Darker baking spice notes develop further on, with a medium length finish with peat remaining throughout.
