Mystery Top Shelf Ultra Premium Barossa Shiraz 2020 750ml

$69.99 $529.99

Quite frankly, the most absurd deal you'll ever see. Strictly while stocks last. Buy heaps.

This top-shelf Barossa Shiraz typically sells for $480 AUD in Australia - which works out to be approximately $530 NZD per bottle. With the recent trade spat between Australia and China causing ongoing exporting issues, we were approached to sell a parcel of this wine under the radar in New Zealand as a mystery deal* to move some of the capacity that China would normally account for. Before the trade spat, this brand enjoyed spectacular success within China's wealthiest circles, and we have been told that the only more recognised Australian wine brand in that market is Penfolds.

We have tasted this wine and, as the reviews below attest, it is spectacular; a highly perfumed, concentrated and opulent release that amplifies everything that the world loves about elite Barossa Shiraz. No expense has been spared in the vineyards or winery to create this wine. The fruit weight, tannin and acid components are beautifully expressed and the finish is incredibly long. Read the reviews below to reassure yourself what's on the table here.

In our minds, this 2020 release sits at the same level as the very finest examples of shiraz that the Barossa has to offer - including the most famous labels in Australian winemaking. It has enormous cellar potential and will continue to drink well over the coming 2-3 decades. (As a relatively young release for wine of this magnitude, we suggest that you decant it before service if you open a bottle in the next few years.)

This brand has a significant following amongst collectors in the Australian market. The 2020 vintage - the winery's current release of this, their flagship label - has only recently been released.  As part of our arrangement with the winery, the wine has been shipped into New Zealand in plain white 6 packs.

Please note: The brand has had very little exposure in the New Zealand market - so please don't be surprised if you don't recognise the label when you purchase it. We unequivocally guarantee the special nature of the value on offer here and are proud to bring you wine of this calibre at this exclusive price.

Clearly, with an opportunity of this magnitude, stocks are strictly limited and we strongly suggest you secure your personal requirements before telling colleagues, family and friends.

* This wine is being sold to you as a 'Mystery deal' to protect the producer's investment in their flagship brand. When you order, the wine will be delivered to you under its normal label, and usual packaging - so all will be revealed when it lands at your door.

Tasting note

Sam Kim, Wine Orbit: "97pts. Immensely complex and enticing, the wine is packed with blackberry, mocha, potpourri, vanillin oak and warm spice characters. The powerfully concentrated palate delivers outstanding depth and plush texture, wonderfully framed by beautifully melded tannins. Multi-layered and lavish, this is magnificent and gratifying. At its best: now to 2040."

Ray Jordan, Wine Pilot: "98pts. An embracing wine that captures so much of the Barossa. Comes from selected rows among selected vineyards, after which the best barrels are chosen to create this exceptional wine. Seductive aromas of black cherry and blackberry with slightly plummy characters. It’s a powerful wine yet the delivery is all one of finesse and elegance. Seamlessly woven chalky tannins thread through the beautifully weighted palate. Bright and bursting with energy."
