Morton Estate's Black Label is synonymous with robust chardonnay and this latest iteration is another richly weighted release that shows creamy mouthfeel and excellent persistence. Since 2016 the winery has sourced Gisborne fruit for the Black Label and that decision has added another layer of texture and riper stone fruits to the proceedings. It's a recipe for success; in 2018 Black Label took out the #2 spot in Cuisine magazine's chardonnay tasting - a significant accolade for a wine that sits where it does. Stylistically, the 2022 follows those same profiles and is showing the benefits of a brilliant chardonnay vintage on the East Coast.
This impressive wine is drinking very well now but will blossom over the next 4-5 years if cellared.
