Te Mata Estate Coleraine 2022 750ml

$154.99 $169.99

On March 1 Te Mata Estate released a new vintage of Coleraine. This is always the most important event on the New Zealand wine calendar and despite the challenging 2022 vintage, the winery team has crafted another release that has captured the imagination of the international wine press.

The vintage is characterised by a very high cabernet sauvignon percentage (84%) - the highest cabernet level since the very first Coleraine release in 1982.  The high cabernet component has delivered a finely structured, dry wine that harks back to the Coleraines of old.  It is a wine that will need extended cellar time to show at its best, and as such does not offer the immediate charm and plusher palate weight of more recent vintages.

The 2022 vintage is 84% cabernet sauvignon, 13% merlot & 3% cabernet franc.

Tasting note

Sam Kim, Wine Orbit: "The ‘King of the Grape’ Cabernet Sauvignon comes to the fore with its flatteringly classy presence. This is captivating and totally seductive on the nose, exhibiting blackcurrant, violet, game, anise, subtle tobacco and cedary oak characters, leading to a powerfully concentrated palate displaying considerable depth and exceptional concentration. Harmonious too, it’s gloriously structured and balanced with a firm grip, yet the tannins are just right and seamlessly infused. Perfectly proportioned, this 2022 has the majestic feel that each previous Coleraine possess."
