Over the past 20 years Ant Mackenzie has crafted fantastic wines for some of the biggest names in New Zealand wine - Dry River, Framingham, Mud House, Te Awa and Spy Valley. Now, under his own banner, he has created a multi-tier range of wines with Theory and Practice range pitched as "contemporary wines with a creative edge".
This is an impressive, powerfully packed Syrah. It's an immediately attractive style with upfront fruit characters that are balanced with fine tannins and lingering spice flavours. Highly recommended.
Tasting note
Sam Kim, Wine Orbit: "It's beautifully ripe and lifted on the nose showing blackberry, toasted almond, smoked game, tar and subtle pepper spice notes. The richly textured palate displays supple mouthfeel and excellent weight well structured by fine grainy tannins, finishing superbly long and sturdy."
