Hailing from Langhorne Creek in South Australia comes this elite, perfectly bottle-aged, premium, single vineyard shiraz from the award winning Heartland winery.
This wine was brought in to New Zealand exclusively for us as part of our popular Mystery Wine releases, but we've since been the given the go ahead by the winery to reveal this one to you, so feel free to do your research too!
We have tasted this wine and, as the 96pt and 95pt reviews below attest, it is magnificent. Presented for sale in ultra heavyweight Grande Burgundy bottles, this is a gorgeously ripe, opulent release that amplifies everything that the world loves about elite Australian Shiraz. The hard work and attention to detail in both the vineyard and winery is very apparent here. It's a fulsome, tour de force style, with luxe mouthfeel and incredible detail on the palate.
2015 was an excellent vintage in Langhorne Creek, and this special wine is a testament to a great vintage and masterful winemaking techniques. Now with nine years bottle age, all the cellaring has been completed for you and this superb shiraz is now in its perfect drinking window. It will continue to reward further cellaring over the coming 5-8 years.
Tasting note
David Stevens-Castro, WinePilot: "On opening, it presents aromas of ripe plum, blackberry jam, soy sauce, licorice and new leather. Opulent tannins, yet composed on the palate, it is a real sleepy giant. Structurally well integrated, the oak, alcohol and core of fruit are in sync. I selected a goat curry to pair — my favourite Indian dish. Matching a powerful wine with a full flavoured meal is not for the faint hearted but certainly it is for me. The earthy rustic textures of the naans on the side revealed a smoky edge in the wine. I enjoyed its complex finish as it kept coming back in waves of Christmas cake. The jasmine rice sweetened things up and worked as the counterbalance to an otherwise very intense experience. A hedonistic wine, set to make a big statement in the Australian wine landscape."
Ray Jordan, WinePilot: "Exquisitely ripe and plush opulent shiraz picked very ripe in this excellent season for Langhorne. The quality of fruit in this year was so good the decision was made to create a small volume single vineyard. Mix of toasty oak plummy spicy shiraz with a mocha and licorice element lifted with some dried herbs and sage push."
