This might just be one of the most impressive Mystery Reds we’ve ever secured. Huge pedigree, huge scores and a seriously premium McLaren Vale Shiraz for a fraction of its usual price. As always, strictly while stocks last. Move fast and grab plenty.

This flagship, individually numbered release normally sells for around $150 AUD in Australia, which is about $170 NZD per bottle. With global wine demand still dipping, we were offered a small parcel of this ultra premium Shiraz to move quietly into the New Zealand market as a mystery deal. Only 200 cases were produced, and it is rare for something at this level to surface here at all.

Stacked with praise from leading wine critics, this McLaren Vale icon comes decorated with a Double Gold, multiple Gold Medals and scores as high as 97 points. It is a powerhouse in every sense, crafted from the best fruit and the best barrels, and presented in heavyweight premium bottles that look every bit as serious as the wine inside.

We have tasted it ourselves and it does not disappoint. This is deeply concentrated, full luxury Shiraz. Brooding dark fruit, espresso, mocha and warm spice roll across the palate, wrapped in plush texture and beautifully integrated oak. It is rich, polished and built to impress, whether you open it now or let it sleep for the next decade. Read the reviews below to reassure yourself what's on the table here.

If you have followed our Mystery wines before, you will know they represent some of the best value in the country. This 2021 release continues that run in style. Premium to the core, limited in quantity and absolutely monumental in the glass.

Tasting notes

Sam Kim, Wine Orbit: "This is substantial and brooding, yet with grace and sophistication, showing dark fruit richness, toasty oak, mocha and warm spice aromas on the nose. The richly expressed palate delivers awesome density with lavish texture and velvety tannins, leading to a superbly long multi-layered finish. It's symphonic and seamless with stunning balance and harmony. At its best: 2927 to 2046." 97pts.

Ken Gargett: "The team describe this as the 'best fruit from the best barrels'. Maturation is in a mix of French oak hogsheads of varying ages. Individual barrel selection leads to the top wine in the range. Near opaque in colour, the nose offers lovely aniseed notes. Dried herbs, coffee grinds, axle grease (in the best sense) and roast meats. There is concentration and power here, and a lovely seductive palate. Soft chocolatey notes flow across the palate, which lingers impressively, maintaining the intensity at all times. Cushiony tannins. A decade plus of exciting drinking ahead for this gem." 95pts.

The winery: "A rich and intense wine displaying aromas of ripe red fruits and dark berries, with hints of roasted almond and lifted spice. The palate is youthfully exuberant with deep and concentrated fruit flavours and structural tannins, providing length and persistence to the elegant finish. Matured in the finest French oak."
