This outstanding, individually numbered release hails from a single vineyard planted in 1972 and is crafted by one of McLaren Vales most respected producers. While it normally sells for around $100 AUD in Australia, which is about $115 NZD per bottle, it was absolutely not made to sell at the price tag we have on it today. Offered to us quietly as a one off parcel, this is the kind of mystery deal that almost never surfaces.
Decorated with multiple Gold Medals and backed by third party scores up to 96 points, the critical acclaim tells the story before you even open the bottle. This is deeply expressive, beautifully structured McLaren Vale Shiraz made with heritage fruit, precision and serious craftsmanship. It smells incredible and looks every bit as premium as it tastes.
We have tasted it ourselves and it is outstanding. A rush of dark fruit, clove, florals and vanillin oak leads into a plush, polished palate with superb weight and seamless flow. There is savoury depth, smooth texture and a long, refined finish that lingers in all the right ways. It is built to impress right now but will also drink beautifully over the next decade. Sam Kim, Wine Orbit: "Powerfully expressed with sophistication, it's perfumed on the nose with dark fruit richness, vanillin oak, clove and floral aromas. The richly stacked palate displays outstanding weight and plush texture with seamlessly woven tannins, finishing superbly long and gratifying." 96pts.
Ken Gargett: "A fine single vineyard shiraz. Deep magenta in colour, the nose gives us briary notes and dried herbs, bay leaves and black cherries. Plush and subtle, this is finely balanced and exhibiting serious length. It will drink wonderfully over the next decade." 95pts.
