This partially barrel fermented Chardonnay was produced from handpicked fruit by one of the most established names in Marlborough wine, and this is 'proper wine' - well-made and given obvious care in the winery.
Normally sold in key international markets, Shelter Bay is a perfect example of middleweight chardonnay with mouth-watering presence. It's softly textural with tangy stonefruit and ripe citrus flavours. A refreshing line of acidity adds great length and promises a very solid future should you decide to tuck some of this sharply priced chardonnay away in the cellar.
Tasting note:
A bright, pale lemon colour with reflections of gold. Grapefruit, lime and fig combine with subtle mineral notes and softer, lees driven aromatics. The palate follows in flavour profile with plenty of citrus and regional stonefruit characters. Layers of creamy acidity bring length and freshness.
