In 2009, Sipsmith was founded after joining forces with a very old still named Prudence. Here they launched perhaps the most iconic gin renaissance in London. Sipsmith London Dry Gin was the first gin to be distilled in a copper still in London for nearly two centuries. In some ways, Sipsmith Gin was the beginning of London’s modern gin, which we now know so well.

Sipsmith London Dry Gin stays true to its roots. A master distiller from 200 years ago would feel at home almost right away at their current distillery. They begin with a base spirit of wheat, and opt for a rather traditional botanical bill: angelica, coriander, licorice. It’s made with a single shot method of distillation - meaning they only dilute with water, not with any additional neutral spirit. Sipsmith Distillery was one of the first distilleries of the craft gin movement to talk about the single shot vs. multi-shot approach, and they are now a big reason as to why there are entire classes devoted to the subject.

Tasting note

Gentle mouthfeel, with initial dry juniper joined by growing sweetness, showing lemon tart & orange marmalade, garnished by a wave of fresh lemon zest, followed by bolder juniper & light dryness, before all the flavours harmonise into one integrated taste.
