Squawking Magpie's 'The Chatterer' range consistently delivers value-for-money, and this 2023 rich, textural charmer is no exception. Vinted from a blend of 64% merlot, 22% cabernet sauvignon and 14% malbec, this is an out and out winner with flavours in the dark plums and blackcurrant spectrum. On the palate it's plush and velvety, supported by fine tannins, and finishes long and satisfying. An absolute winner!

The Squawking Magpie The Chatterer Merlot Cabernet Malbec 2023 has recently been named in Andrew Caillard MW’s prestigious 2023 Gimblett Gravels Annual Vintage Selection - one of the most coveted accolades in New Zealand wine. Only six wines made the cut, and as Andrew himself declared, "it is extremely moving to taste wines of this quality and impact". That’s high praise from one of the world’s top wine critics, and a huge achievement for this Hawke’s Bay gem. STOCK IS LIMITED. GET YOUR SHARE.

Tasting note

Andrew Caillard MW: "Medium deep crimson. Red cherry, red plum, cassis aromas with marzipan, roasted walnut notes. Supple and well concentarted with ample red and dark berry fruits, attractive mid-palate volume and sinuous grainy/ cedar tannins. Builds up claret firm with black olive, dark chocolate notes."

The winery: "This wine is deep in colour with a layered, fragrant nose of ripe plum and cassis with lifted vanilla, cedar and tobacco notes. The palate has a rich velvet texture with excellent structure, ripe black fruits and cassis flavours with a long full finish. Barrel aged for 18 months."
