Bayou Reserve Dark Rum is a smooth, easygoing American rum made from locally grown sugarcane in southern Louisiana, where rum has been part of the landscape for generations. It punches well above its price point, offering genuine depth and character without trying too hard.
The molasses comes from the oldest family owned and operated sugar mill in the United States, and each batch is distilled in copper pot stills before being matured in bourbon barrels for up to three years using a Solera-style ageing method. The result is a dark rum that leans warm, rounded and gently spiced, with a flavour profile that will feel familiar to bourbon drinkers while still very much its own thing.
This is a great all-rounder. Smooth enough to sip, sturdy enough for classic rum cocktails, and an easy upgrade for anything that calls for a darker style.
Tasting Notes
Creamy vanilla on the nose with hints of apple and cinnamon. The palate opens with dry, oak-driven notes reminiscent of aged bourbon, followed by maple sweetness and warming spice. The finish is dry and lingering, showing dark fruit and soft wood character.
