This premium Barossa Shiraz typically sells for $450 AUD in Australia - which equates to approximately $485 NZD per bottle. With the effects of the trade spat between Australia and China still ongoing, we were approached to sell a parcel of this wine under the radar in New Zealand as a mystery deal* to move some of the capacity that China would normally account for.

Named Australia's Best New Producer by the Penguin Wine Guide and amongst the Top 10 Australian Wineries by Decanter Magazine, this wine comes from a super-premium producer and is a testament to that reputation.

As the 98pt score makes clear, this is world class, super-premium shiraz in a style that showcases the Barossa with elegance and understated power. It represents the very pinnacle of Barossan winemaking and is a truly wonderful investment for any collector of premium wines. Read the reviews below to reassure yourself what's on the table here.

2023 was a superb growing season in Barossa, with fruit of amazing quality despite small yield - and you will immediately recognise the underlying power and palate-weight here, despite this being a relatively young wine. The nose opens with seductive choco-berry, spices and blackcurrant notes that further develop to a palate that is deeply concentrated, and complete. The finish is rich yet elegant, with refined texture and beautifully woven tannins. The finish goes on forever. It has tremendous cellar potential and will continue to drink well over the coming two decades.

Tasting notes

Sam Kim, Wine Orbit: "Immensely complex and perfumed, the bouquet presents black and blueberry, violet, tapenade, star anise, and stylish oak characters. The concentrated palate exhibits exceptional depth and weight, wonderfully framed by velvety texture and finely infused tannins. It is opulent and substantial, yet refined and harmonious, with a persistent and gratifying finish. Gorgeously proportioned and balanced, ensuring its gracious development. At its best: 2028 to 2043."  98pts.

Ken Gargett, Wine Pilot: "The colour is an opaque magenta. The lifted aromatics are a touch thrilling and there are notes of plums, spices, chocolate, tobacco leaves, aniseed, black fruits and coffee grinds. The oak integration has been deftly handled. This is a class effort. The palate sees the emergence of notes of soy, cloves and blackberries. There is fine balance, impressive length and the finest of tannins. Wonderful stuff, which will surely drink beautifully for the next ten to twenty years. Barossa at its best." 96pts.

Tony Love: "Best of the territory, top grade Barossa Shiraz resting in French oak casks for 18 months, resulting in a supremely finessed, singular expression where the fruit and oak marriage is everything, just a glimpse of smoky bacon, just a faint whiff of eucalypt, all expertly woven and expressed with a contemporary vitality in the palate, seasoned generously with a black pepper spice character, concluding in an elite wrapping of gastronomic Amaro-like bitterness. A good airing of decanter is worth the effort for this to step further into the stratosphere." 96pts.
