Arran Signature Series #3 "Duero Discovery" Cask Finish is a limited edition 12 year old single malt from Lochranza Distillery that shows just how transformative great wine casks can be. Personally selected and signed by Distillery Manager Stewart Bowman, it spent its first six years in first and second fill bourbon barrels before being transferred into first fill Spanish red wine casks from the Duero region for a further six years. The result is rich, ruby amber in colour and markedly deeper than the classic Arran style, while still holding onto the distillery’s trademark freshness and fruit.
This exceptional unpeated single malt is full bodied and layered, with caramelised fruit, hazelnut, salted caramel, and grapefruit rind on the nose before dark red berries, creamy vanilla, ginger, sweet spice, and aniseed take over on the palate. The finish runs long with ripe fig, hazelnut, vanilla, and toasted oak. Bottled at 50%, non chill filtered, and released in limited quantities, it is a particularly compelling bottle for Arran fans and anyone who enjoys the richer, fruit driven influence of premium red wine casks.
Tasting Notes
Rich and full bodied with caramelised fruit, hazelnut, salted caramel, and grapefruit rind, followed by dark red berries, creamy vanilla, ginger, sweet spice, and aniseed through a long finish of ripe fig and toasted oak.
