The Source Chardonnay Barrel Aged Gin is a seriously special small-batch release that shows just how compelling barrel-aged gin can be when the cask and spirit are this well matched. Seasoned in an ex-Maude Winery Otago Chardonnay barrel from Central Otago, this release takes The Source’s bright botanical house style and gives it extra texture, depth and a beautifully lifted floral edge. With only 371 bottles produced, this is very much one for gin drinkers who like discovering something rare, thoughtful and a little outside the usual lane.
This first-ever Maude Chardonnay cask release has drawn out the more delicate side of the gin, especially the hand-foraged Central Otago rose hip, and layered it against the wine-seasoned oak to create something genuinely distinctive. Gooseberry, lemon zest and chamomile come through on the nose, while the palate opens with a fresh Bianco vermouth feel, showing wormwood, weighted citrus peel and a lingering herbal-floral finish. It also comes as a numbered single cask release, which only adds to the sense that this is a bottle for people who appreciate the finer details.
Tasting Notes
Elegant and layered with gooseberry, lemon zest and chamomile on the nose, followed by wormwood, weighted citrus peel and a long herbal-floral finish with lifted rose hip character.
