Another superb effort from this absolute Alexandra superstar. Dark and quite gamey this affordable wine offers the complexity and sheer pleasure factor that many of their competitors can only dream of. Silky tannins, vibrant freshness and exceptional balance carry the wine through to a long, memorable finish.
Grasshopper Rock has built a reputation as one of Central Otago's standout producers, and this 2022 release is further proof of why wine lovers continue to seek out every vintage. A benchmark example of Central Otago Pinot Noir and one of the smartest buys in the category. Totally recommended.
Tasting note
The winery writes: "A full silky entry with dark plum, dark cherry, florals and forest floor notes. Concentrated and complex with good minerality, ample fine grained tannins and a persistent finish. Firm acid backbone which melds well with the dark fruit profile."
Bob Campbell MW: "Fragrant pinot noir with floral/rose petal and berry flavours that contrasts with a structure of fine, sappy tannins. Although the wine is relatively light-bodied the tannic backbone suggests that it has good cellaring potential."
Cameron Douglas MS: "Great colour intensity with a red and ruby core and light pink hued rim. Aromas of a bright, fresh, youthful and varietal wine with boysenberry and raspberry scents laced with a soft lees and savoury frame, some youthful reduction and barrel spices. Complex and enticing. A dry wine on the palate with lots of tension and poise, plush ripe red berries reflect the bouquet plus plum and rose. Fine tannins and acidity frame the palate nicely, a savoury layer and dried herb. Best drinking from 2027 through 2034+."
