Guigal is arguably the most famous producer in the Rhône Valley. Founded by Étienne Guigal in 1946, his son Marcel is almost single-handedly responsible for the regions resurgence over the last few decades. Anyone who knows French reds will agree that the Guigal CdR is one of the Rhône's most consistent performers and the 2023 is right on form.
The palate is rich and beautifully rounded, with ripe blackberry, dark cherry and plum fruit layered with cracked pepper, dried herbs and a touch of savoury spice. There’s plenty of classic Rhône character here, with supple tannins, lovely freshness and a long, warming finish.

Vinted from a blend of syrah (50%), grenache (40%), and mourvèdre (10%).
Sam Kim, Wine Orbit: "It's wonderfully styled and inviting on the nose with dark plum, sweet cherry, cured meat, thyme, and hazelnut aromas. The palate delivers excellent weight, a plump mouthfeel, and velvety texture, wonderfully framed by layers of fine tannins, making it sturdy yet silky and smooth with a lengthy, flavoursome finish."
Cameron Douglas MS: "An excellent expression that speaks to the style, region and red blend classics from the southern Rhone. Aromas and flavours of plums and blackcurrants, raspberry and dried herbs, sage and thyme, medium+ tannins and acidity frame a textured palate with a decent line of fruit and lots of style. Wine Enthusiast: "Black plum and cocoa-dusted, white-button-mushroom aromas bump against raspberry and black tea, on the nose. The palate is fulsome in body yet reserved in flavor with red fruit riding all the way to the finish that is made more complex by velvety tannins that demure."

A full bodied rich and intensely aromatic wine. Full with a soft finish and plenty of elegance and finesse due to the well balanced tannins and fruit."
