Jim Barry's famous Cover Drive Cabernet has been knocking it for six for years, and this latest release is another cracking example of why it's become such a favourite with Aussie red wine lovers. The story behind the label is a beauty, inspired by an old cricket ground in Coonawarra that the Barry family transformed into a Cabernet vineyard, while preserving the original pitch and pavilion.
Made from a combination of Clare Valley and Coonawarra fruit, this is classic South Australian Cabernet at its approachable best. Rich, smooth and generously flavoured, with plenty of ripe dark fruit character, lovely texture and the kind of length that keeps you coming back for another glass. It's a terrific all-rounder, equally at home alongside a good steak or a Sunday roast.
If you enjoy quality Aussie Cabernet without the hefty price tag, The Cover Drive deserves a place in your wine rack. A proven performer that continues to deliver outstanding drinking for the money.
Tasting note
Sam Kim, Wine Orbit writes "A gorgeous expression of the variety, showing blackcurrant, bay leaf, smoked game and roasted nut characters on the nose, leading to a succulent palate offering supple texture and chalky tannins. Well composed and structured with layers of attractive flavours, making it highly enjoyable."
