In 1949, the Hombo family started distilling whisky at Mars Distillery, led by Kiichiro Iwai. In 1984, production moved to a high-altitude site in Nagano and a lighter style of whisky was introduced. However, they closed in 1992 due to Japan's whisky market crash and reopened in 2011.
The limited edition Mars Iwai Tradition Wine Cask Finish is a unique blend of malt and grain whiskies, aged for over one year in ex-red wine casks from Hombo Shuzo’s renowned Chateau Mars winery in Yamanashi prefecture. This version pays tribute to Kiichiro Iwai, the first person to establish Japan's inaugural distillery, making it a fitting addition to any connoisseur's collection. With only 2,495 bottles available, this release won't last long.
Tasting Notes
This whisky boasts a stunningly golden color and a refined nose, abundant with the aroma of red fruits and the warm scent of freshly baked bread. Hints of vanilla and spices, such as pepper, add a delightful touch to the overall bouquet.
