Monmousseau is without question the Loire Valley’s most famous producer of sparkling wines. The winery was founded in 1886 with extensive vineyard holdings above ground and 15 kilometres of underground tunnels for fermentation and aging below them.

There is just so much to like here and we are backing Monmousseau all the way in this key price point. The champagne-esque bottles certainly promise much, but we can assure you that it's what is in the glass that is the star of this show. Aged for 18 months on lees (to impart a touch of bready, yeasty complexity), this methode traditionelle shows excellent finesse and fruit purity - with fresh citrus and pear notes and a lovely line of crisp acidity keeping the palate vibrant and alive. Expect to see a long, fine, consistent bead of bubbles and expect to fall heavily for this sharply priced gem.

Tasting note:

A delicious blend of 70% Chenin Blanc, 30% Chardonnay. Light golden color. Small long-lasting bubbles. Full and frothy on the front palate, with almond, fig and pear flavors, with a soft integrated finish.
