Motel Mezcal is mezcal made the right way - rooted in generations of craftsmanship and tradition, but with a fresh energy that brings it into the modern moment.
Produced in Santiago Matatlán, Oaxaca, by third-generation maestro mezcalero Daniel López, every bottle reflects both tradition and innovation. The Espadín agave is left to mature for at least eight years before being roasted underground on volcanic stone, ground by horse-drawn tahona, naturally fermented in open-air pine vats, and double-distilled without shortcuts or additives. It’s mezcal in its purest form, built on patience and respect for land and culture.
But Motel Mezcal is more than just process. It’s a brand that carries mezcal’s artisanal roots onto the global stage while staying true to the people and places that create it. Owned and crafted by its producers, it puts authenticity first, from sourcing recycled glass bottles in Mexico to maintaining sustainable farming practices that encourage biodiversity. With founders spanning Mexico, New Zealand, Hong Kong and the United States, Motel Mezcal embodies a meeting of cultures and perspectives, all united by a single mission: to share mezcal’s heritage and artistry with the world.
Tasting Notes
Brilliantly clear in the glass with a rich viscosity. On the nose, ripe pineapple and honeydew lead, accented by vanilla sweetness, green vegetal freshness and a subtle smokiness. The palate is smooth and creamy with layers of roasted pineapple and ripe tropical fruit. A soft smokiness lingers into a long, fruit-driven finish.
