National Distillery Hemp Gin is one of the standout releases from Napier’s National Distillery Co., taking the house’s seven core gin aromatics and adding toasted New Zealand hemp hearts plus a generous hit of lemon peel. The result is a bold contemporary gin with plenty of citrus up front, backed by warm, earthy, toasted notes that give it real depth. It has serious pedigree too, winning Trophy Champion Gin and Gold at the 2020 New Zealand Spirits Awards, Champion Flavoured Gin at the 2024 NZ Small Batch Gin Awards, and Bronze at the 2022 IWSC.
This distinctive 45% gin is beautifully balanced despite all that character, with luscious citrus giving way to toasted hemp, baking spice, pepper, and a long woody finish. The hemp hearts bring warmth and texture rather than anything gimmicky, while juniper and classic botanicals keep the gin firmly grounded. Presented in National Distillery’s distinctive bottle with its dark hemp-inspired label and wooden closure, it has the shelf presence to match the liquid inside.
