National Distillery Native Gin is a contemporary New Zealand gin that puts native botanicals firmly at the centre of the story. Made in Napier by National Distillery Co., it combines kawakawa and karamu with a broader botanical mix including juniper, coriander, angelica, orris, cardamom, liquorice root, cassia, lemon peel, hemp, and New Zealand flax seed. The result is unmistakably local, with a profile that feels richer, more savoury, and more adventurous than a traditional dry gin. It is also a proven performer, having been named Best New Zealand Gin and taking Gold at the 2020 Juniper Awards.
This excellent native gin balances the peppery warmth of kawakawa with the softer berry-like sweetness of karamu, while juniper and earthy spice keep everything structured underneath. There is a long-lasting savoury character through the palate, followed by subtle toasted notes and a gently sweet finish. At 44% ABV, it has enough weight to stand up beautifully in a premium G&T or Martini, especially if you like your gin bold, botanical, and distinctly New Zealand.
