No8 Distillery Ouzo is an award-winning New Zealand take on the classic aniseed spirit, handcrafted in Dunedin with No8’s distinctive mix of European tradition and local small batch character. Soft aniseed aromas lead the way, recalling old-fashioned sweet shops and smoky aniseed lollies, before the palate turns bolder, warmer, and more herbaceous. It is a characterful release from a distillery that has built an international reputation for adventurous botanical spirits, earning the New Zealand Trophy for Botanical and Other Spirits in 2022.
This expressive 45% spirit brings together aniseed, caraway, and fennel in a concentrated, full-flavoured style. The initial sweetness quickly gives way to a lively burst of spice and herbal warmth, while adding chilled water or soda softens the intensity and opens up its aromatic layers. Serve it in a tall glass over plenty of ice, lengthened with cold water or soda, and watch it turn beautifully cloudy as the botanical oils are released.
Tasting Notes
Soft aniseed and nostalgic sweet-shop aromas lead into bold caraway, fennel, and warming herbal spice, becoming smoother, creamier, and more aromatic when diluted.
