Red Hut Roys Hill Chardonnay 2024 (6x750ml)
Red Hut is an exciting new project for Corey Ryan - one of the most celebrated winemakers in Australasia.
This 2024 release from Hawke’s Bay’s Roys Hill is everything we want in a modern New Zealand Chardy: creamy, elegant, and just the right amount of oak swagger. Expect a hit of white peach and citrus blossom on the nose, backed up by toasty cashew and a little struck-match minerality that keeps things interesting. The palate is silky and full, with ripe stone fruit flavours and a gentle oak spice running through it. There’s plenty of texture and weight, but it finishes clean and fresh. Definitely one to get excited about!
Tasting note
Sam Kim, Wine Orbit: "Gorgeously composed and expressed, the wine shows golden peach, lemon peel, nougat, and roasted hazelnut aromas on the nose. It's concentrated and beautifully rounded in the mouth, delivering a creamy texture backed by fine acidity, finishing impressively long and satisfying. At its best: now to 2030."
Kasia Sobiesiak: "This is a very smart chardonnay with immediate appeal. There's a solid fruit base, elegant oak seasoning, texture, length. Nougat, cream, fresh zippy palate, some ginger, lemon sorbet, and melon crunch. It's ripe but has a swift, energetic flow, with a bit of warming spice and aniseed finish. Good drinkability, great value."
Huon Hooke, The Real Review: "Medium-light yellow; richly nutty oak-influenced bouquet with a trace of smoky reduction and the palate is full and broad, rich and fairly obvious—rather than subtle. Buttery, creamy dairy influences from lees contact and malolactic. A flavoursome chardonnay that gives plenty of substance for the price."
The winemakers: "This 2024 Red Hut Hawke’s Bay Chardonnay from Roy’s Hill offers a finely balanced expression of site and season. Aromas of white peach, citrus blossom and roasted cashew lead into a textured palate layered with ripe stone fruit, subtle oak spice and a touch of flinty minerality. The natural fermentation and extended lees contact add depth and complexity, while bright acidity provides length and freshness on the finish. Elegant, structured and cellar-worthy."
