The 2024 Toro Centenario is immediately inviting, with ripe dark plum, blackcurrant and blackberry characters leading into hints of pepper and warm spice. There’s plenty of substance through the middle, but nothing heavy or overworked – the tannins are supple, the fruit stays juicy and there’s enough freshness to keep everything nicely in balance. This is Cabernet Sauvignon with the palate weight and structure that makes you wonder how it’s been shipped halfway around the world and sold here in New Zealand at this price! Loads of flavour, plenty of substance and cracking value for money.
Open it with steak, lamb or something off the barbecue, or simply pour a glass at the end of the day.
Tasting note
Aromas of ripe blackcurrant, plum, and dark cherry lead the way, with subtle notes of cocoa, cedar, and spice in the background. The palate is full-bodied and smooth, showing generous dark fruit layered with hints of mocha and toasted oak. Fine tannins provide structure, balanced by a soft, rounded finish that lingers nicely.
