Waiheke Whisky Dyad Heart of Gold Single Malt Whisky is an extraordinarily rare New Zealand single malt born from an experiment that was never meant to happen. After an unsuccessful trial with the spirit cuts, distiller Patrick Newton sent the whisky through the still for a third time, creating a remarkably clear and elegant peated spirit that became Heart of Gold. Made from New Zealand peated barley and matured in American oak, this one-off single cask release was a favourite of former Glenlivet master distiller Alan Winchester when he visited Waiheke Whisky. Just 150 bottles were produced, and that is all there will ever be.
This exceptional triple-distilled single malt balances aromatic peat smoke with developed notes of stone fruit and vanilla honeycomb, delivering clarity, sweetness, and a beautifully composed texture. Bottled at a robust 52%, without chill filtration or added colour, it retains the full character of the cask and spirit. Presented in Waiheke Whisky’s distinctive modern bottle, Heart of Gold has all the presence, rarity, and story of a genuine collector’s release, though the whisky inside deserves to be opened and enjoyed.
Tasting Notes
Elegant and expressive with developed stone fruit, vanilla honeycomb, gentle peat smoke, and polished American oak, finishing long, warming, and beautifully clear.
