The Margarita is one of the most iconic cocktails out there - zesty, refreshing and a little bit cheeky. But just because you’re skipping the alcohol doesn’t mean you have to skip the flavour. A good non-alcoholic Margarita hits all the same notes as the classic - tart lime, subtle sweetness and that unmistakable citrus snap.
With great non-alcoholic spirits now widely available, you can mix up a zero-proof version that’s just as satisfying as the original. Whether you’re pacing yourself, doing Dry July or just in the mood for something booze-free, this is a drink that still delivers.
Non-Alcoholic Margarita Recipe
Ingredients:
-
50ml Non-Alcoholic Tequila, we love this one: Barnes & Brown Miss Agave 0% Tequila
-
25ml Non-Alcoholic Triple Sec (Barnes & Browne have done a fantastic job of this too!)
-
25ml lime juice - fresh is best but bottled lime juice is a great backup option
-
10ml agave syrup or simple syrup
-
Ice
-
Lime wedge and salt, to garnish
Method:
-
Run a lime wedge around the rim of your glass and dip it in salt (optional but recommended).
-
Add all ingredients to a shaker with ice.
-
Shake for about 15 seconds until nicely chilled.
-
Strain into a short glass filled with fresh ice.
-
Garnish with a lime wedge.
Tips for the Best Flavour
-
Use fresh lime juice - bottled won’t have the same zing.
-
Adjust the sweetness to taste - some non-alc spirits are often sweeter than their alcoholic counterparts.
-
For a more tart version, use less syrup or skip it entirely.
-
Chill your glass for a more refreshing sip.
Make It Your Way
-
Spicy Marg: Add a slice of fresh chilli or chilli powder to your rim salt, or better yet use Parched Smoked Chilli Rim Dust!
-
Frozen Marg: Blend all ingredients with ice for a slushy-style treat.
-
Citrus Twist: Try adding grapefruit or blood orange juice for something different.
Final Thoughts
Non-alcoholic cocktails have come a long way, and this Margarita proves it. When you use quality zero-proof spirits like Barnes & Brown tequila and triple sec alternatives, you don’t need to sacrifice on taste or experience.
Serve it with tacos, sip it on a sunny afternoon, or batch a few for your next BBQ - this is one non-alc cocktail you’ll want to make again and again.
